Project Overview

Wincobank School had suffered over the years from an extremely old and tired roofing stock, including both flat and pitched sections. Numerous patch repairs over the years had done little to stop the issues, so M&J stepped in and assisted in not only gaining them almost £1m in funding, but also completely overhauled all of their roof areas to leave them completely in the dry and guaranteed for the next 25 years+.

Being an infant school, child safety was the number one priority so M&J sat down with the client to determine a phased approach to scaffolding and roofing works, to ensure that classroom disruption was kept to a minimum, and that the works had as little impact as possible on the teaching environment. Noisy works were also carried out outside of teaching hours.

There were a number of complex details and interfaces between the different types of roofing, which took a lot of planning with M&J’s design team to make sure that all were done in conjunction with each other. M&J’s flat roofing and pitched roofing division sat down together and planned each and every detail, making sure nothing was left to chance. Full invasive surveys were carried out prior to the installation so that information was as accurate as possible for the operatives.

With no H&S incidents, and over 3,000 man hours on site, the project was a complete success. Under budget and on program.
