St Georges Hospital

Project Summary

This project involved the refurbishment of over 1,200m2 of flat roofing to a fully operational hospital wing in central London.

The specification called for the existing roof construction to be stripped back to the metal decking and replaced by a Marly system specification providing a 20 year guarantee.

The project was completed within a tight contract period with no interruption to the use of the hospital building at that time and all in accordance with the strict site re-strictions imposed by the client and the nature of their work.

For this particular project the client requested a “no-flame” specification to negate the risk of fire.

Project Overview

This was a highly complex roofing and M&E project that had complicated access issues both to get to the roof and to carry out the roofing once there.nfrcawards15_winner_white_2

It was made all the more complex with the plant on the roof that had to be raised and adjusted to facilitate the roofing works.

All works had to be planned carefully around the quench pipe from the MRI ducting, which was potentially lethal if disturbed.

All works were carried out using hot air welded built up felt roofing which meant no flame was used to mitigate the risk of a fire in very small spaces.

In May 2015 this project was Awarded as winner of the National Roofing Federation’s award for Re-inforced Bitumen Membrane roofing.
