This Years M&J Annual Surveyors Dinner with Jason Leonard

This year, M&J’s annual Surveyors Dinner was hosted by none other than Jason Leonard, Rugby World Cup winning legend of 2003.

The event, hosted in Mayfair, saw a gathering of what M&J see as being representatives of the premier surveyors in the UK, covering the education, health and general practice sectors and covering budgets in excess of £100m.

The event, first undertaken in 2012, was established by M&J Group to recognise a closer working relationship between M&J Group and key surveying practices, and continues to go from strength to strength.   Fortunately, Mr Leonard was a little more reserved than 2003.

M&J Group continue to achieve success @ The National Roofing Awards 2016!

M&J Group continue to achieve success @ The National Roofing Awards 2016!

M&J Group are pleased to announce that they have once again achieved success at the National Roofing Awards Canadian2016 having been shortlisted for the 6th consecutive year, under the “Reinforced Bitumen Membrane” category. Of the 6 years we have been shortlisted for, M&J have won on 3 occasions!

Almost 300 entries were submitted to the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) this year, with just 56 projects across 14 disciplines making the shortlist; of which M&J group were successful in being included.

M&J Group’s project at The Canadian Embassy, Bucharest was shortlisted under The Reinforced Bitumen Membrane category. The project was complex not only for its logistical issues, but also for the sensitive nature of the site. Hours of work were restricted to late afternoons on certain days, with diplomats calling meetings internally at a moment’s notice, with which works had to halt. This meant works were limited to what could be made watertight within the hour.

Reduction of disruption to services inside was one of the key aspects for the client, and certain areas could not be stripped back, despite being saturated. M&J de-watered these areas to avoid disruption and still maintain the 35 year guarantee. This project also utilised Alumasc’s Olivine Capsheet, which is a naturally occurring mineral with carbon neutralising properties.

ukawards16_finalistThe roof was 900m2 in total, with 75% having to be stripped and 25% being de-watered. All of this had to be completed before the Romanian winter set in, with temperatures set to dip well below freezing, and as much as -15 at times. This would have left the embassy exposed over the winter months with an incomplete waterproofing system.

M&J finished 2 weeks ahead of the program even accounting for a couple of impromptu diplomat meetings which put a halt to proceedings on some days! M&J sent their own operatives across to Romania to ensure that workmanship was kept to the highest of standards. Liaison with a local scaffolder was important in ensuring the project ran on time and without incident – UK H&S laws were adhered to as it was agreed this would be more stringent than local H&S rules, which included ‘educating’ the local scaffolding contractor.

Jamie Carter from Keegan’s wrote;

“A very good handover inspection. The quality of work was excellent and Jean and Daniel were very pleased with the job and the way the project was delivered, so well done to all at M&J.”
